Monday Inspiration

This staircase is total perfection. The simplicity of the runner with little railhead details. The wood paneling paired with the pale oak floors. And the statement bench with the soft blue linen. Details in all the right places!

Five Things

These five beauties from Anthropologie are so fabulous and commanding that I could design a whole room around them.  Anthropologie is really stepping up it’s game with some amazing adds to its Fall Home Collection.  Who wants a room with a key piece that is worth the investment because it totally makes the room!

I’m not ready to kick summer to the curb yet but I sure am dreaming of all the fancy coats I’ll be wearing soon! I love me some coats. When I’m older and I move it will be somewhere I get to wear jeans, a T and a coat.

Coats, Coats, Coats, Coats, Coats!

Simple Beautiful Home

As you may know I am huge fan of the Beauty Counter line of cosmetics and skin care and to get a peek into the owner and creators home is a huge treat! Gregg Renfrew’s California home is exactly what you would expect. Clean and simple pointed with a few beautiful textiles, antiques and unique items. And to think she has three kids running around this gem is even more fun!

Cinco de Mayo!

People! What is better than celebrating Cinco de Mayo? Margs, guac, tacos and all things Mexican. I love it all! I grew up without Mexican food or culture in my life. Seriously! I don’t think I ate anything Mexican until I was in my twenties. And now that I live in the Mile High city there is great Mexican food with in a 5 minute drive.  And you are when you are a two hour flight from south the border, Mexico trumps Florida any time. Here are the top Cinco things you need to be doing this Cinco de Mayo.

Uno

Make a Marg. Please don’t by a bottle of that “pre-made” crap. Make a real margarita and save yourself the huge amount of sugar and a huge hangover. The real deal never gives me a hangover.

You’ll need:
Kosher salt or ground sea salt ( for the rim)
2 ounces (1/4 cup) tequila
1 1/2 ounces (3 tablespoons) fresh lime juice
1 ounce (2 tablespoons) fresh orange juice
1 teaspoon light agave nectar
1 lime wedge or round, for garnish

Add ll the ingredients to a shaker and shake shake shake!

The best margarita you will ever have!

Dos

Well if you are filling up on alcohol you going to have to have something to soak it up! I know you all have been to Whole Foods and I know you will risk a communicable disease if they are sampling the guacamole in the produce section. Yes because it is that good. I love that stuff!  Although I do like to make my own it’s always worth the $20 when you are in a hurry to pick up their guacamole and those home made chips. Mmmmmm.

guac1

Ingredients

4 ripe avocadoes

1/4 cup thinly sliced grape or cherry tomatoes (or mangoes if you’re feeling adventurous)

1 tablespoon finely chopped red onion

1 jalapeño or serrano pepper, seeds removed and finely chopped

Coarsely chopped cilantro, to taste (I like about a teaspoon and a half)

2 cloves garlic, finely chopped

Juice of one half lime- I grill it in a skillet (it enhances the flavor and warm limes produce more juice- it also smells heavenly)

1/2 teaspoon each cumin and chili powder (or to taste)

Salt and pepper, to taste

Method

Combine all the ingredients except the avocadoes, salt and pepper to give the flavors a chance to meld for a half hour or so. Mash the avocadoes with a fork so there are whole pieces of avocado and then gently fold in the other ingredients. Serve immediately.

Tres

Dress that table up with something bright and beautiful! Roll out this otomi embroidered table runner in bright coral. It will make your table pop and perfectly contrast all the citrus greens you are serving. You can get it over at Furbish Studio

Back to booze. I was just recently introduced to this delicious cocktail last time I was in Mexico and its now one of my favorite was to drink beer, with a little spice!

House Envy 2.0

I’m totally going through a phase where I want to paint EVERYTHING in my house stark white. White walls, clean, very few patterns and hints of vintage textiles. Well I also know that it’s not realistic. My kids like to destroy my house. Yep that’s right those sweet little girls will wreak havoc on white walls. Not to mention my husband would kill me if I started to redecorate again. So I’ll just live vicariously through Pinterest homes and online mags to give me the white fix. Erin Fetherston’s house featured on One King’s Lane  is just dreamy! Lovely layers of soft white tones and a hint of blue. Mellow gold accents, rustic wood tables and a great mix of modern and vintage.  Love how they layered the rugs on the living room and kept the mantle and other accessories minimal.
